Influence of iso-propyl alcohol on electrophoretic deposition of SiC from a mixture of acetone and n-butylamine

摘要
The influence of addition of iso-propyl alcohol to suspensions of SiC in a mixture of acetone and n-butylamine on the stability of the suspensions and the electrophoretic deposition from these suspensions is investigated. With increasing iso-propyl alcohol concentration the electrophoretic mobility of the SiC decreases, until the stability of the suspensions is lost (>50 vol%). No difference was found, however, in the mechanical properties of the SiC obtained after sintering deposits obtained from stable as well as unstable suspensions.
