For a better understanding of the aspiration test on articular cartilage layered materials, we analyzed the axisymmetric contact problem of an elastic layer subjected to a tensile stress applied over a circular region. This problem was equivalent to a three-dimensional theory of elasticity, and an analytical and exact solution was obtained through an infinite system of simultaneous equations by expressing the normal displacement in the circular region as an appropriate series.
