Doping effects of the oxygen and calcium contents in the underdoped regime of the high-temperature superconductor (La1-xCax)(Ba1.75-xLa0.25+x)Cu3Oy have been investigated by Ca-43 NMR. The Knight shift (KS) has been determined as a function of temperature in the normal state. The orbital part of KS is found to vary with the calcium concentration. For lightly doped samples, the thermal behaviour of KS advocates for an increase of the doping level when increasing the calcium content. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
