Theology of the Eucharist in Teilhard de Chardin

In the Christian tradition, the Eucharistic celebration has always been central. The Second Vatican Council re-cognizes it as the source and summit of all Christian life. Although the Eucharist occupies a place of great relevance in the Christian faith, its understanding is not exempt from questions raised by modern culture. An up-to-date reflection on the theology of the Eucharist is a necessary and permanent task to keep the sacramental faith of the Church alive and to express in an up-to-date way what is actually believed. However, this reflection cannot ignore the contributions of the Sacrosanctum Concilium and the liturgical renewal of recent decades. The present study aims to confront the contribution of the Second Vatican Council with the liturgical-eucharistic theology of the Jesuit Teilhard de Chardin, who contributed considerably to a dialogue between science and faith. It starts with the thesis that it is possible to find similar points capable of proposing an understanding of the Eucharist in its cosmic dimension.
