Third-order nonlinear spectroscopy of coupled vibrations

摘要
Frequency dispersed pump-probe and two-dimensional infrared photon echo spectroscopy have been used to investigate the inter-mode interactions in a model system of two coupled molecular vibrations. The amplitude of the quantum beats, observed in polarization sensitive pump-probe experiments, was used to determine the projection angle between the interacting dipoles. The frequency splitting between peaks in the two-dimensional photon echo spectrum is shown to be directly related to the strength of anharmonic couplings.
