A medium-scale model test system of ice-structure interaction has been built. Its objective is to study different modes of dynamic ice load and structural response of narrow compliant structures like the drilling platforms in Bohai Bay, and the test system has been authorized to be a patent. The stiffness and top mass of the model structure are of high values to reduce scaling effect. Ice sheet is frozen in a special carriage and is pushed by a powerful hydraulic actuator with steady ice velocity. A series of tests has been conducted, using the system; in which quasi-static and self-excited ice loads and structural responses were achieved.
