Evolution from Kondo lattice to single-ion Kondo behaviour in Ce1-xLaxCu4Al system

摘要
The magnetic susceptibility chi(T) and electrical resistivity rho(T) of polycrystalline Ce1-xLaxCu4Al (0.0 <= x <= 1.0) are presented. Magnetic ordering was not observed down to 2 K. The effective magnetic moment values obtained across the series are in fair agreement with the value 2.54 mu(B)/Ce that corresponds to a free Ce3+ ion. Electrical resistivity studies illustrate the evolution from the Kondo lattice model to single-ion Kondo behavior with an increase in La content in the Ce1-xLaxCu4Al alloy series. A compressible Kondo lattice model has been used to describe the decrease in the Kondo temperature T-K and maximum in electrical resistivity T-max with the decrease in Ce concentration for these compounds.
