On Necessity of the Implication of Intercultural "Third Space" in Foreign Language Teaching

摘要
From multicultural perspective foreign language teaching takes place in a "third space" that is shaped by both learners' mother tongue and culture and target language and culture. This paper introduces the theory of intercultural third place and elaborates the research on this theory at home and abroad. Based on the study of universal and relativist approaches, the paper puts forward constructivism, which suggests to develop a third place for language learners in the practice of foreign language teaching. And finally, the necessity of applying the intercultural third place theory into foreign language teaching is explained.
