Species of soil inhabiting termites (Insecta: Isoptera) collected in Eucalyptus plantations in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil

The objective of this research was to study species of soil inhabiting termites collected in reforested areas with Eucalyptus spp. in the Savannah areas of the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. These insects were manually collected from nests and foraging substrates such as heartwood of stumps and dry pieces of wood in stands with different species of Eucalyptus of the V & M Florestal Ltd. in the Municipalities of Joao Pinheiro, Bocaiuva, Curvelo and Paraopeba, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Thirty-two termite species were found and two of them were considered new for science. Species collected belong to 25 genera of the families Termitidae and Rhinotermitidae. A total of 75% the species found was registered in the Eucalyptus plantations of the Municipalities of Joao Pinheiro where most areas sampled presented sandy soil.
