Effect of neem cake, neem oil, repelin and carbofuran on control of soybean nematodes

Studies were conducted to evaluate the effect of neem cake, neem oil, Repelin and carbofuran applied 2g/kg of soil infested with Helicotylenchus sp., Pratylenchus sp., Xiphenema sp., and Aphelenchus sp. at the number which produces disease in an epidemic form. Significant reduction in the nematode population was recorded. Repelin application was comparable to carbofuran. The application significantly increased saprophytic soil biota, especially soil fungi which parasitized the pathogenic nematodes. The application significantly controlled soil-borne plant fungal pathogens such as Sclerotium rolfsii and Rhizoctonis bataticola, which cause collar and root rots respectively. The infectivity of fungal pathogens is associated with nematode infection. The treatment increased yield significantly (22 q/ha) over control (12 q/ha). These results indicate the role of Repelin in the integrated control of nematodes and fungal plant pathogens in soybean.
