Cluster formation in supersonic CO2 and CO2-Kr jets

The thermodynamic relationship [V. P. Krainov and M. B. Smirnov, Phys. Rep. 370, 237 (2002)] that connects the number of clusters, the mean number of atoms in a cluster, and the gas-condensation temperature in an adiabatically expanding supersonic jet has been experimental verified for the first time. This relationship was found to be valid both for pure CO2 and for a CO2-Kr gas mixture. The gas-condensation temperatures have been determined to be 95 and 220 K in a jet of pure CO2 and in a CO2-Kr mixture.
