Synthesis and characterization of succinimide and phthalimide dithiocarbamates and their complexes with some transition metal ions

Succinimide dithiocarbamate, phthalimide dithiocarbamate and their complexes with Cr(III), Mn(II), Fe(lll), Co(II), NI(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) have been synthesized. Conductivity measurements show the non-electrolytic behaviour of the complexes. On the basis of magnetic moment and spectral data an octahedral geometry has been proposed for the Fe(III) and Cr(III) complexes. A tetrahedral geometry has been suggested for the Mn(II), Co(II) and Zn(II) while Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes appear to have a square-planar structure. The dithiocarbamates have been observed to be bonded to the metal ion via both the sulphur atoms of the -NCS2 group in all cases. The 10Dq value indicates highest stability for the Cr(III) complexes.
