This paper describes an effort to determine the applicability of an airborne, wide-area Landmine Survey and Detection System for Humanitarian Demining (HD) applications. The work involved the integration of a ground penetrating radar (GPR) operating in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) mode onto a fully autonomous rotorcraft unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) system called CAMCOPTER(R). The integrated system is described as well as the SAR data processing methodology used. Flight tests of the system are described and examples of resultant SAR imagery are presented.
