"Am I going to the theater?", the emergency of microtheaters in Guayaquil

The micro theater GYE(6) emerges in 2014 from an adapted house, where were presented short plays. There was a modest pub there too. Pop Up emerged two years later, and with a commercial model, reached a large number of spectators. In 2017 Microteatro GYE was move to the downtown, where it reached a larger audience. Through surveys and interviews conducted between June and July 2017, this article aims to highlight the differences and similarities of motivations from the audience who attend Microteatro GYE and PopUp. This work exposes that the main motivation from the spectators who frequent both places is the environment, which favors another and different alternative of socialization.
