Determinants of the public service retirement decision

Research objective: The objective of this paper is to analyze the influence of individual, professional and legal factors on the retirement decision. Theoretical framework: These factors were analyzed using 16 variables, including gender, career satisfaction, job autonomy and uncertainty about social security legislation. Methodology: The sample was random within a stratification of public servants at least 50 years old and acting in a Brazilian federal autarchy, totalizing a population of 195 servers. The methodology used is the Logistic Regression with data collected through a questionnaire applied to 83 public servants. Results: The results indicated that the decision to continue working after retirement is influenced by individual and professional factors. Female public servants, who think their retirement income will be insufficient, who perceive their working hours as flexible and who showed satisfaction and commitment to work, were characterized as the profile of those inclined to continue working after having the right to retirement. Originality: The work addresses a wide range of variables, not yet considered together in previous studies for the Brazilian context.
