Local active sound control using 2-norm and ∞-norm pressure minimization

This paper presents a method of designing active noise control systems to generate zones of quiet in which a new approach was employed, involving 2-norm or infinity-norm pressure minimization in the quiet zone. This is in contrast to the conventional design method, where the acoustic pressure or the acoustic pressure and particle velocity are set to zero at given cancellation points, with no direct control on the size and shape of the quiet zones. It is shown that larger zones of quiet are obtained using this new approach, with better control over the shape of the zones of quiet. (C) 2000 Academic Press.
