Phase transition in ultrathin ferroelectric poly(vinylidene fluoride) films

摘要
Ultrathin poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) films prepared by the Langmuir-Schaffer method were investigated. By measuring adsorption isotherms of water molecules on the film surface, it was shown that the adsorption capacity of the films has a maximum in the vicinity of 335 K, which is indicative of the existence of a structural phase transition in this temperature range. This transition was not observed previously; it takes place only in films of 7-11 monolayers (5-8 nm) in thickness and disappears when the film attains a thickness of 30-40 monolayers.
