摘要
Background/Purpose: Limited data are available on body composition in centenarians; therefore, we investigated the body composition in patients over 90 years old (long- livers) with coronary artery disease (CAD), and analyzed the relationships between the fat and lean tissues, bone mineral density, and functionality of long-living persons. Methods: A cross-sectional study of 200 patients (30% of men and 70% of women) who were hospitalized with diagnosis of CAD was conducted. The age of the patients varied from 90 to 106 years. The body composition was analyzed by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). Results: Overweight or obesity were diagnosed in 70.3% of patients. Musculoskeletal index remained within normal values in 72.1% of patients and was below normal in 27.9% of patients. Decrease of total BMD (T-score) below -2.5SD was detected in 40%, and normal total T-score- in 30.7% of patients. The smallest values of BMD were found in ribs, the largestin spine and lower extremities. Significant positive correlation was found between BMD and fat mass in all parts of the body (r=0.6; p <0.001). Positive correlation was found between the lean mass and BMD (r=0.64; p <0.001). Negative correlation was found between the fat and lean mass, in particular, in lower extremities (r=-0.47; p <0.001). Conclusion: The study results indicate some features of body composition in long-livers. The proportion of overweight patients with normal indices of BMD and lean mass was relatively high. Significant relationships between the bone, adipose and lean tissues were demonstrated. Copyright (c) 2022, Asian Association for Frailty and Sarcopenia and Taiwan Association for Integrated Care.
