THE IMPACT OF AGRICULTURAL ACTIVITIES ON RURAL AREAS. CASE STUDY: COTMEANA PIEDMONT

Cotmeana Piedmont is located in the central-southern part of Romania, being positioned in the transition area of temperate climate with continental influences. The soils were formed on a geological substrate where gravel and sand prevail, thus their fertility increasing towards the south [3]. Consequently, from the analysis of statistical information and cartographic material, two distinct regions have been defined in terms of the impact of agricultural activities on the environment: the northern part, sparsely anthropic thus maintaining an ecologic balance, and the southern part highly anthropic, where the ecologic balance has been affected.
