Screening Bulgarian medicinal plant extracts for antioxidant activity

摘要：
Extracts of several plants used in Bulgarian phytotherapy were screened in vitro for antioxidant activity. The plants are traditionally applied in practice for the treatment of respiratory, gastrointestinal and other inflammatory disorders. The water phase antioxidant activities of the plant extracts were compared to that of the extracts of Ilex paraguarensis (the famous tea-like beverage Mate) and green tea, well known for their high antioxidant potential. The usage of Bulgarian medicinal plants for prophylaxis and treatment of inflammatory diseases is discussed.
