A compressed xenon ionization chamber X-ray gamma-ray detector incorporating both charge and scintillation collection

摘要
A high resolution room temperature dual gridded ionization chamber X-ray/gamma-ray detector incorporating both charge and scintillation light collecting capabilities is described. The detector uses highly purified and compressed xenon gas as the detection medium and has an intrinsic energy resolution of 2.4% at 662 keV. The scintillation signal is ideal for triggering, background discrimination, and ionization position determination. The detector design and timing properties are described.
