The enthalpy method is a simple and efficient method of solving moving boundary problems associated with melting and solidification. The numerical techniques used to solve the equations are typically explicit and implicit methods. The combination of a more effective mathematical technique, the method of lines, with the enthalpy method has yielded a more stable and easily programmed solution which has been successfully tested against previous results.
