摘要
Thermal management is one of the main issues to design compact and high power electric motors for automotive application. Evaporative cooling is already well used in electric devices such as inverters. It appears as an interesting solution for motors because it can evacuate large amount of energy with a low temperature gradient. This paper deals with the benefits on copper coil current density that an evaporative cooling method can provide. To achieve this goal, tests are performed on wires submerged into different 3MTM NovecTM fluids. The heat flux and the current density behaviors are studied. Finally, the possibilities of rising the motor current density to increase its torque or to improve its efficiency and the use of evaporative cooling in motors are discussed.
