Documentation in museums, libraries and archives

Museums should improve the accessibility of their digitally documented collections. The BAM project enables not only museums, but also archives and libraries to bring together their documented information using an internet portal. The museums must be prepared to document their collections by providing the human and technical resources. This is the very aim of the MusIS project. Existing national and international standards are applied to ensure the long-term quality of the documentation. But in Germany documentation standards are developed with a focus on libraries. Therefore their application in archives and museums is problematic, but offers substantial advantages.
