摘要
Objective:Considering the high prevalence of diabetes and osteoporosis in Iranians, the current research was conducted to study the correlation between these two diseases in a group of postmenopausal women. Methods:The present study was conducted on postmenopausal women recruited in the third phase of the Iranian Multi-centric Osteoporosis Study. They were divided into two groups (diabetic and nondiabetic) based on their diabetes history and laboratory results. The serum levels of bone markers and bone mineral density values were compared between the two groups. Results:A total of 110 postmenopausal women were included. Although bone mineral density values were nonsignificantly higher in diabetic postmenopausal women, there was no considerable difference between the prevalence of osteoporosis or serum levels of bone markers in the two groups. Conclusions:There is no difference in bone mass values or bone turnover process between Iranian postmenopausal women with or without diabetes.
