摘要
Spatial and temporal variability of soil water and water use efficiency were determined during a comparison of conventional (CH) and alternate furrow irrigation (AFI) of maize. Results showed that there was considerable lateral movement between irrigated furrows and non-irrigated furrows. Whilst water use efficiency of AFI was lower than CH, there was no obvious difference in distribution uniformity between them. Both evapotranspiration rates and photosynthetic rates declined a little in the AFI treatment. With AFI, water supply could be cut by one third to achieve the same yield.
