Technology trends in modern aluminium casthouse furnaces

摘要
The continuing quest for improvement in metal quality and quantity by aluminium producers is driving casthouse equipment suppliers to develop high-technology solutions. This is particularly the case in the supply of casthouse furnaces. This paper reviews the latest technologies in and around furnaces that are used to comply with quality, production, and safety demands. New advances in electrically-heated furnaces, electromagnetic stirring, metal transfer, refractory materials, access, and furnace controls are discussed. The impact of these new developments is important not only in terms of their capital, operating, and maintenance costs, but also in terms of their impact on the safety and environmental performance of the furnace.
