An adaptive halftoning algorithm and its application in multiresolution rendering

摘要
An adaptive halftoning algorithm is introduced here. It colligates the error-propagation and error-convergence technologies, adjusts the threshold and the error diffusion weights by minimizing the local error criterion to produce more high quality bilevel or multilevel image. The way of least mean squares(LMS) is used in the minimizing process. Experiments shows that this algorithm has better results than general error diffusion algorithms. Based on this algorithm, the multiresolution display can be realized. It just needs to store the highest resolution picture. The low resolution version can he expressed through downsample. This characteristic is possessed by the image constructed with the method presented here. Some image is achieved and image quality is high in experiments.
