Mechanical and damping properties of porous AZ91 magnesium alloy

摘要
A novel powder metallurgy process has been developed to fabricate porous AZ91 magnesium alloy based on space holder method. Depending on the volume fraction and the diameter of the carbamide particle, the porosity and pore size can be varied in the range of 40-80% and from hundreds of micrometres to several millimetres respectively. The compressive mechanical and damping measurements show that the porous AZ91 magnesium alloy has a quite long plateau stress region and enhanced damping capacity, being a promising candidate in energy absorbing applications.
