Recycling of low grade precious metal scrap

This paper provides an overview of the recycling of low-grade precious metal bearing scrap. The scrap is available in many different types and grades, such as jewelry, catalysts and electronics. The chain of activities in the recycling of electronics includes the recovery of reusable components as well as precious metals. There are a number of processing routes available for precious metal recovery, with base metal smelters playing an increasingly important role, This paper outlines the key requirements of a successful recycling operation, reviews some recent trends in the industry and points to some possible future developments.
