Analysis of X-linked agammaglobulinemia patients in Mexico

Humoral immunodeficiences are very common in the National Registry of Primary Immunodeficiences in Mexico. Among the humoral defects, X-linked agammaglobulinemia (XLA) is one of the most frequently found. In this work we analyzed seven patients with XLA, that, as expected, they had almost undetectable levels of peripheral B cells, whereas monocytes, polymorphonuclear and NK cells levels were normal or slightly high. The analysis of expression of Btk by flow cytometry showed its absence in one patient. Although these results help us to identify one possible cause to explain XLA in this group of patients, further studies are necessary to characterize the molecular defects responsible of the disease.
