Sarcoptes scabiei infestation in a cat

case of a cat infested with Sarcoptes scabiei is presented. A I-year-old male Persian was presented with a 3 month history of severely deformed claws and paronychia, crusting and hemorrhagic lesions on all four paws and the fail. These skin lesions were different from the clinical features usually described in feline sarcoptic mange. Sarcoptes scabiei infestation was confirmed by skin scrapings. The cat improved markedly with ivermectin at dosage of 200 mu g/kg subcutaneously and 2% lime sulfur bath at weekly intervals for 4 weeks. There have been no signs of recurrence for more than 20 months since the treatment was discontinued. S. scabiei infestation is extremely rare in cats.
