摘要
I review the progress of the Southern Galactic Plane Survey, focusing on the survey goals, methods, and scientific results. The Southern Galactic Plane Survey is an HI and 21-cm continuum survey of the fourth quadrant of the Galactic Plane. Using the Australia Telescope Compact Array and the Parkes Radio Telescope the survey covers the area 253degrees less than or equal to l less than or equal to 358degrees, \b\ less than or equal to 1.degrees5 at an angular resolution of similar to 2' and spectral resolution of 0.8 km s(-1). The survey data products include combined Parkes and ATCA Hi data cubes and 21-cm Stokes 1, Q, U, and V continuum images of the full survey region, and Parkes data cubes of an extended region covering 253degrees less than or equal to l less than or equal to 358degrees, \b\ less than or equal to 10degrees The survey is being used to explore HI shells, supershells and chimneys, the HI spatial power spectrum and properties of the magneto-ionic medium.
