摘要
The effective management of an organization's human resources is widely viewed as a major source of sustainable competitive advantage and profitability. There is, however, little empirical research on this issue in small firms despite the fact that these organizations account for more than 95% of all businesses in the United States and Canada. Using a sample of 1, 950 small firms in Canada, we attempt to address this issue by analyzing the effects of human resources management (HRM) on firm performance. The results suggest that while profit sharing plans contribute significantly to firm performance in small businesses, other HRM practices do not. Implications for research and practice are discussed and areas for future research identified.
