Comparative Study of Poverty in China and India

Poverty is a global problem which impedes the development of all countries. In 21st century, the world economy has developed rapidly, but poverty remains the most serious challenge to the world. China and India are both developing countries with a large number of population, social and economic developments are in the rising trend. Both two countries had been in colonial rule, and now are experiencing different extent poverty. We can find that there are many similarities exist between two countries. First part of this paper describes the poverty situation of two countries, and then tries to analyze whether these common factors lead to two countries suffering from poverty. On the other hand, besides the discrepancies in the politics, economy, the concrete social policy between two countries also has great differences. The power of two countries' governments exist disparity, so that the patterns of social governance also have many discrepancies. And other specific characteristics differences between two countries also have result in the different situations of poverty----China gradually gets out of poverty, and India's situation is not optimistic. This article also attempts to compare the specific characteristics of two countries to find out the reasons of the different poverty degree, and to find out the necessary conditions and ways to get rid of poverty, for both two countries and other countries reference.
