Policies of HIV/AIDS prevention for adolescents in the practice. The case of Mexico

Contextual factors play an important role in the prevention and risk awareness of HIV/AIDS. The present study of Mexico is part of a major project which objective is to investigate the barriers and opportunities for improving the sexual and reproductive health of young people. The aim of this paper is to present a wider understanding of the context in which sexuality and reproductive health occurs. It focusses on policies of HIV/AIDS prevention for adolescents and its practice. Findings indicate the barriers to HIV/AIDS prevention and the opportunities available in the country to reduce HIV infections. One of the main conclusions is that the gap between policy and practice act as a deterrent of condom use among young people.
