Eigenvalue criteria for existence of positive solutions to nonlinear boundary value problems

摘要
Criteria are established for existence of positive solutions to the BVP Lu = f(t, u), alpha u(0) - beta u'(0) = 0 = gamma u(1) + delta u'(1), where Lu := -(pu')' + qu. Here p is an element of C-1[0, 1], p > 0, q is an element of C[0, 1], q greater than or equal to 0. Conditions are given in terms of the relative behavior of the quotient (f(t, u))/u for u near 0 and infinity with respect to the smallest positive eigenvalue of Lu = lambda u satisfying the boundary conditions.
