An investigation on developing web-based executive information systems

Many successful stories of executive information systems have been published in both professional and academic journals. However, the majority of business executives have indicated that they don't have the information needed for making important management decisions, One possible reason is the high costs of developing and maintaining an executive information system. This paper investigates the possibility of developing EIS using Web-based Internet technology since World Wide Web has been widely used in many organizations for dismantling information internally and externally. The authors found that there is a high degree of similarity between the characteristics of a good Executive Information System and of a Web Browser. Web-based Executive Information Systems can help business executives make important management decisions. Moreover, the cost of developing and maintaining a web-based executive information system is inexpensive and the time of deployment is quick.
