Theory of confinement effects in finite one-dimensional phononic crystals

摘要
A theory of complete confinement effects in finite one-dimensional phononic crystals based on the general properties of the periodic differential equations is presented. Our theory provides some exact and general fundamental understandings of finite phononic crystals. It is found that the frequencies of boundary-dependent confined eigenmodes in stress-free finite phononic crystals always decrease as a result of confinement. This is opposite to what one would expect for the confinement effects on the electronic states in finite crystals.
