Reflection and transmission at the ocean/sea-ice boundary

The scattering of water waves by the edge of a semi-infinite ice sheet in a finite depth ocean is solved using the residue calculus technique. We consider both the case where the obliquely incident plane wave is from the open sea region and the complementary problem where the wave is incident from the ice-covered region. Exact solutions to these problems are obtained, equivalent to those that can be obtained if the Wiener-Hopf technique is used. Contrary to popular belief, the solutions are easy to evaluate numerically. (C) 2003 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
