摘要
Over the past few decades the field of remote sensing with its plethora of platforms and instruments has rapidly grown and expanded, particularly in its applications to the study of the environment and of Earth System Sciences. The effectiveness and efficiency of this mode of environmental probing is quite evident, and new and intriguing sensing methodologies and parameterizations are ever emerging for a wide spectrum of the geosciences. However, as the field advances, caution must be taken to ensure intrinsic continuity by raising awareness, training, preparing, and equipping the next generation of remote sensing scientists. This paper, therefore, describes a model remote sensing program that was designed and implemented for a diverse group of undergraduate students. Not only was the program successful in training 79 students over a seven year period, but it also created an entree to many of them pursuing remote sensing at the graduate level.
