In-plane movement of coating pigments during hot-soft nip calendering of coated paper

摘要
In this study, the in-plane motion of a coating layer due to calendering was measured experimentally through the analysis of micrographs of coating colour containing a small fraction of coloured microspheres. Measurements of microsphere location were taken both before and after calendering. For the coating and calendering conditions examined in this study, there was no significant in-plane flow of the coating layer, contrary to some previous hypotheses.
