摘要：
Different granularity levels for parallel block-based motion compensation as used in video compression are discussed. We introduce the concept of switching between granularities to resolve load balancing problems which limit scalability. The performance of the corresponding MPI implementations on a SGI Power Challenge and a Cray T3-E is compared.
