Pulse narrowing due to optical interference in fiber-optic systems with polarization-dependent signal reception

摘要
One proposed technique for the compensation of polarization mode dispersion involves splitting the optical signal at the fiber output into orthogonal polarization components, with only one of the components subsequently detected. There is a possibility with such a system to have output pulses that are narrower than the input pulses. Experimental and analytical results are presented to show that this anomalous pulse narrowing can be explained as an interference phenomenon. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
