Institutionalizing service-learning across the university - International comparisons

摘要
As institutions develop service-learning activities and programs, there is increasing interest in understanding the extent of institutionalization of service-learning. The "Furco Rubric" (Furco, 2003), an assessment tool designed to assist institutions both in self-assessing their progress in institutionalization of service-learning and as the basis for strategic planning and implementation of enhanced service-learning and related activities, was used for institutional assessments and comparisons at three institutions. All of these institutions are considered leaders in their commitment to service-learning: the University of Natal-Pietermaritzburg in South Africa, St. Francis Xavier University ill Canada, and Portland State University in the United States.
