A Broadband Circular Polarized Magneto-Electric Dipole Antenna

A broadband circular polarized magneto-electric dipole antenna (ME dipole antenna) with single feed is presented in this paper. The proposed antenna is composed of a ground floor served as a reflecting plate, a copper feed structure vertical to the floor, and a magneto-electric dipole. The magneto-electric dipole is a horizontal planar dipole and a vertical oriented shorted patch. Owing to the magnetic dipole and electric dipole have the same direction, the proposed antenna achieves circularly polarized radiation characteristics. The simulation results show that the proposed antenna can cover a wide axial ratio bandwidth (AR <= 3dB) of 57.14% (2GHz-3.6GHz), with respect to a center frequency of 2.8 GHz. Meanwhile, an impedance bandwidth (S11<10dB) of 66.6% covering 1.7GHz-3.4GHz is achieved. The peak gain of 8.7dBi is acquired in 2.2GHz. From 1.86GHz to 3.86 GHz, the gain is greater than 5dBi, covering the whole circular polarization range.
