摘要：
The issue of sustainability as the key concept to supporting life on earth is drawing significant interest. Among the factors to achieving sustainability, technology is considered to be one of the most important. Currently, an ultimate definition of the role of technology for sustainability is not yet available. Nevertheless, many initiatives are attempting to define the links between sustainability and technology development. Three such initiatives are cleaner production and the sustainable development strategy and the European Union's Environmental Technologies Action Plan (ETAP).
