Intranasal corticosteroids in the treatment of allergic rhinitis

Recent clinical studies have indicated that ciclesonide provides effective relief from nasal symptoms of AR and may have a rapid onset Of action. Moreover, the results of two clinical trials, including a 52-week study, have suggested that intranasal ciclesonide does not cause cortisol suppression. Furthermore, intranasal ciclesonide does not have all additive effect on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal-axis function when administered in combination with inhaled corticosteroids (ICSs), indicating that intranasal ciclesonide call be used in combination with all ICS in patients with asthma and comorbid AR. Therefore, intranasal ciclesonide appears to provide an additional treatment option for patients with AR.
