Prevention of cardiovascular diseases by vitamins

The increasing health care costs call for adequate preventive measures. The well known benefit from sufficiently taken fruits and vegetables can be applied also for the most important constituents. One of the most promising components with regard to prevention of cardiovascular diseases is vitamin E. Numerous epidemiological studies and recently also some intervention trials point at a protective function of vitamin E. However, it must be considered that Vitamins do not act normally as single entities but rather as groups of vitamins. Following intakes can be recommended today: Vitamin C: 75 - 150 mg, Vitamin E 15 - 30 mg; however, these figures may be raised in the future.
