摘要
Modeling and modifying wind energy conversion systems are becoming extremely attractive topics for scientists and engineers around the world. Assessing the potential of wind as a basic and indispensable part of wind farm establishment is also taken into consideration by many researchers. In this paper, we study the wind energy potentiality of Butterworth, Malaysia by comparing the wind power density calculated by Weibull distribution function and also developing the turbine power curve for 5 different wind turbines which is selected from the commercial market. Finally in this research the energy density from Weibull distribution function is 288.23 and 315.10 kWh/m(2)/year for year 2008 and 2009 respectively and energy extracted from wind turbine is between 165.7 and 231.8 kWh/m(2)/year. From the results, it could be concluded that Butterworth may not be a suitable area for forming the large scale in-line wind farms.
